Don't Forget the Comic

The DFC is sadly coming to a halt at issue 43 if no buyer is found before March 27th. This is of course tragic news and I could easily sit here and mourn its loss, be saddened by the abrupt end and curse the gods of comics for allowing such a thing to happen. But that's not important. What's important is to remember that the DFC did not fail. It achieved so much and, if economy hadn't stuck its smelly nose in, would have continued to do so. We never planned on a rocket journey for the magazine, but a gentle cycle ride, gathering followers and reputation as it went....it was expected to take time. The world economy, it seems, did not have time to give. Random House can't really be blamed if they just don't have the money to support the DFC any more...and the team certainly can't be blamed for anything as I've never worked with a more enthusiastic, fun, awesome bunch of editors, creators and publishers. While it was here, the DFC was true to David Fickling's vision - and what a vision it was. Pure comics. No ads, no cutbacks on quality - just well produced and high quality fun. The feedback and support we've seen from readers and their families, and -hell-from the creators ourselves have proved beyond doubt that the DFC was a success....and who knows what will happen from here. Friends and contacts that were made won't be lost. And I can't see many of those stories burying their heads forever....and David Fickling himself? Something tells me he will bounce right back with ten times more awesome. Thank you to everyone who supported us and the comic. You're all wonderful.

I'm very sorry to discover that this truly brilliant comic is now no more. Although I'd been aware of the DFC since it's launch it wasn't until comparitively recently that I realised just how superbly talented the creators behind this comic were.

To my mind and I'm old enough to recall the post war boom in UK comics, it was quite simply one of the best UK comics ever, the quality of the scripting and the artwork was quite simply dazzling and it's freedom to suprise and delight by not being tied down to a specific theme or stable of characters, was a real first. It's editorial vision seemed dedicated to promoting the best in comics and in this it succeeded admirably.

Having perused and immersed myself in every issue of this comic, i cannot for a moment believe that the talented artists and writers involved will not find other outlets for their skills. It's just such a pity that UK comics will once again revert to being as predictable as they have been over the last ten to fifteen years

Hi Agnes! Thank you so much for writing to me, that's very sweet of you. I fully intend to continue the story in some way, as there's so much to tell....so stay in touch!
Clayton's formula is going to be causing some interesting new developments at school, that's for sure....but hopefully nothing that Violet, Tyler and the gang can't handle!
The DFC ending is sad news for everyone, but don't worry - all of us creators are working with David Fickling and the team to find a way of getting these stories to you!

You mention Violet cosplay....have you thought of dressing as Violet then? That would be amazing! ^__^
